Hoping things would turn around for the show on Sunday, Long was plagued by the same problem that bit many other drivers in the event.
“When we started off the car just got way too free,” said Long. “Then we put new tires on it and made a few changes and made it a little bit tighter, but we got a lap down in the pits. So we were already behind and then we lost another lap. That's when we finally got it running pretty good and we could stay up front. We decided to save our tires as much as we could at that point and then do what we could towards the end and we ended up tenth.”
Next up for Johanna Long and her Panhandle Motorsports crew will be the CRA Super Late Model season opener at Gresham Motorsports Park this coming Saturday, March 13th. Stay tuned to JohannaLong.net for all the latest team news.
Johanna Long made her first trip back to South Alabama Speedway, the site of her first ever Late Model victory, since 2008 this past weekend to take part in both the Pro and Super Late Model portions of the famed “Rattler.”
Unfortunately for Long and her team, mechanical problems took them out of Saturday night's Pro Rattler 125.
Josh Hamner then attempted to qualify the car she planned to race in the Pro Late Model race, for the Super Late Model Rattler 250 and met some adversity in his qualifying run just a few short hours before the race, by way of a spin in turn two. The team was fairly certain that caused a rear-end problem that ended up taking them out of the race later on in the evening.
“We just started off and the car wasn't good at all,” explained Long. “We thought the rear end was broken and then somebody got me into the wall and that just ruined our night. We got a couple laps down and then we just parked it.”
